About this object
A photograph of pupils, nuns and a priest at St Joseph's Catholic School, Meeanee, Napier. An annotation on the back of the photograph refers to Sister Mary MacKillop who is seated second from the right. Sister Mary MacKillop visited Meeanee twice in 1894 and again in 1898.

It is likely the priest is Father Francois Yardin who arranged for the Sisters of St Joseph of Sacred Heart to come and staff the school. Father Yardin lived at Meeanee from 1885 to 1904. The sisters staffed the school from February 1886.

Charles Burridge was in Wairoa in 1900 and from PapersPast there's evidence that he was in Hastings in 1896. Mother Mary McKillop visited Meeanee twice in 1894 and again in 1898. It is likely that the priest is Father Francois Yardin sm, who arranged for the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart to come and staff the school. Fr Yardin lived at Meeanee 1885-1904. The Sisters staffed the school from February 1886.
