The photograph has been taken from the side of Kaiti Hill looking north. A road runs diagonally across the photograph from the right. This is possibly Hirini Street.
There is a note on the back of the postcard to Mrs Chegwidden from her daughter Minnie regarding heavy flooding in Gisborne. She notes that several bridges have been washed away. The post stamp is dated 1910.
