The photograph has been taken from the centre of the road, looking south east towards the Tūranganui River. Among the businesses that are visible down the street are R Seymour, James McKee (wholesale family grocer and provision merchant), R Hannah and Company (boot maker), and Melbourne Cash (Drapers and milliners). The Gisborne Post Office is visible at the end of the street.

There is a note on the back of the postcard to Mrs Chegwidden from two of her children. The post stamp is dated 1910.
