About this object
A hand coloured photograph of a woman standing beneath a carved archway at the living thermal village, Whakarewarewa, Rotorua. Part of an album of coloured scenery images.
A description of the scene has been pasted onto the album page. It reads: Welcome to Maoriland. A nice young lady on a holiday visit to Rotorua poses to be snapped under the carved archway leading to the Model Pā grounds at Whakarewarewa. The two figures at the top of the carving symbolise the Māori idea of greeting, and the whole is a splendid example of the skilful craft of the native race.
