The photograph has been taken from Emerson Street looking towards the front façade of the building. Members of McGruer's staff pose for the photograph in front of the building, both at street level and on the upstairs balcony.

Among those staff members that have been identified are Ivy Lucas (ground level, 1st on left), Alice Steeve (ground level, 2nd on left) Mr Dennett (ground level, first bay, right), Bernard Dellow (ground level, middle bay, 1st on left), W A Webb (ground level, middle bay, 4th on left) and the owner of McGruer's, Percy Peters (ground level, third bay, 3rd on left).

Blythes department store is visible to the right of McGruer's.
