About this object
View of the Napier Branch of the National Bank of New Zealand on the corner of Hastings Street and Emerson Street.

The photograph has been taken from the intersection of Hastings and Emerson Streets looking towards the main entrance to the building. The branch is housed in a two storey building constructed in reinforced concrete with a two-tone plaster finish. The building, which was completed in 1933, was designed by the Wellington-based architectural firm Atkin & Mitchell is the Stripped Classical style. A sign for D P Ronberg, Dentist, is located in the second storey window. A large number of bicycles are parked along Emerson Street.

The premises of Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited (ANZ) is located to the left of the National Bank. Designed by Atkin & Mitchell in the Classical revival style, this building was completed in 1932. The corner of the Masonic Hotel is visible on the extreme left of the photograph.
