About this object
View of Ship Cove otherwise known as Meretoto in Queen Charlotte Sound otherwise known as Totaranui taken on 30 March 1902.
The photograph has been taken from the shoreline looking across the bay. Two boats can be seen in the bay. The boat on the left is occupied by two unidentified men.
A note on the album page observes that Captain James Cook anchored in Ship Cove for the first time on 16 January 1770 and visited it on four occasions afterwards.
