View of Emerson Street, Napier, taken following the Hawke's Bay earthquake on 3 February 1931.

The photograph has been taken from Emerson Street, standing near the Hastings Street intersection looking west. There is extensive damage to the buildings that line the street and the road is strewn with rubble.
The remains of the Blythes building are visible on the left side of the street.
