About this object
A photographic postcard of Ruth Comer, née Anderson, and others dressed for a patriotic celebration, circa 1916.

At the centre Comer is standing holding a trident symbolising the naval power of Britain. She wears the traditional white robes used to depict Britannia and a Corinthian helmet. In front of her she supports a shield decorated with the British Union Flag or Union Jack.

The other women appear to be dressed in patriotic colours. Two are standing at either side of Comer and two are seated on the ground on either side of the image.

The group of women are standing in front of a painted woodland backdrop.
