About this object
A photograph of the exterior of St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Napier. In the photograph there is scaffolding which extends to the top of the spire. Standing on the top platform are four men - architects Walter Finch and James Augustus Louis Hay and two builders - and a woman, Thelma Williamson, who worked for Hay as a draughtsperson. As granddaughter of the oldest member of St Paul's parish, Thelma was given the honour of placing the weathervane in position. Six weeks later the church was destroyed in the Napier earthquake.

Photographer, Percy Sorrell.
