View of Heretaunga Street, Hastings, taken following the Hawke's Bay earthquake on 3 February 1931.

In the foreground, a man in uniform sits in a chair. A second man stands to his left. The Municipal Buildings are located on the left side of the road. The building has sustained some damage. The street surrounding the building is strewn with rubble. Further along the street, a group of men can be seen shovelling rubble onto the back of a truck.
