View of the Napier Nurses' Home taken in the aftermath of the Hawke's Bay earthquake on 3 February 1931.
The entire building collapsed as a result of the earthquake. The photograph depicts naval men searching among the ruins for bodies. Four men in naval uniform stand amid the rubble. Two of the men are lifting a piece of concrete. The man behind holds a shovel. The fourth man strides away from this group towards the right.
The date 5 February 1931 is handwritten on the back of the photograph.
