About this object
View of Napier refugees at a Red Cross depot in Wellington following the Hawke's Bay earthquake on 3 February 1931.

The depot was located in the recently built railway goods shed at Thorndon. A railway track is visible on the left side of the photograph.
In the foreground, a woman stands at a table serving cups of tea and coffee. A crowd of people stand nearby. Further people are seated around the shed. In the background, a booth has been established. A sign on the wall above the table reads: Register Here Accommodation Arranged. To the right of this sign is a second sign reading: Kitchen Keep Out.
