About this object
This photograph depicts Hastings Street from the Dickens Street corner on the day of the Hawke's Bay earthquake, 3rd of February 1931. Immediately following the earthquake buildings in the Central Business District caught fire. To the left is the Napier Post Office. Lining the street are collapsed buildings from which smoke from the fires is visible.
