View of the Uawa River, Gisborne, taken on 30 October 1901. The photograph has been taken from the bank of the river near Tolaga Bay, looking across the water to the other side. A barge is located in the foreground. A pulley system is used to operate the barge.

There is a rowboat on the left hand side of the photograph. Houses and other structures can be seen on the opposite side of the river and hills are visible in the distance.
