About this object
A view of Te Mata Homestead in Havelock North, thought to have been taken in 1870. The photograph has been taken at a distance from the house, providing a record of the appearance of the house in its wider context. Young trees have been planted in front of the house. Mature trees are visible behind the house.

By the time the photograph was taken, two wings had been added to the original single storey cottage. Both wings feature a bay window and decorative bargeboards.
