Brief Description
Eight assorted plans and booklets related to Nelson Brothers Limited.
a) Envelope containing the documents listed below. Attached along the top of the envelope is a label that reads: Tomoana.
b) Plan of the Hawke's Bay Rivers Scheme. This plan shows streets, rivers, railways from the Tukituki River, East Clive, Awatoto, Taradale, Tutaekuri River, Ngaruroro River and Hastings.
The investigating committee scheme is highlighted in green and shows the Ngaruroro River diverging from Chesterhope, Brookfields Bridge and ending at the washout bridge at Awatoto. There is also a divergence of the Tutaekuri River at Taradale meeting with the Ngaruroro river at Brookfields Bridge and ending at the same place at the Awatoto river mouth.
Hay's scheme shows proposed stop banks from Fernhill to Pakowhai running parallel to the Ngaruroro River and diverging to meet with the Tutaekuri River, with another river branch running through Clive and ending at the river mouth.
c) Plan of the Tomoana electric lines, dated 12 June 1916. The plan is titled: Part Lot 1, Subdivision D, Heretaunga Block, Block XVI, Heretaunga Survey District.
The plan shows government tablet railway lines, government telegraph lines, private electric lines and private telephone lines bordering lot 18, District Plan 3005 and the Karamu Reserve. The plan also shows the Nelson Brothers Office and the distance of 13 chains from the engine room to the office.
The scale is three chains to the inch.
d) Plan of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Showground at Tomoana. The mapped area is bordered by Karamu Road in the south, Waikoko Lake to the west and the Railway Reserve and Freezing Works Office in the north.
e) Plan of lots 1 to 15, Subdivision 4, Heretaunga Block, for Nelson Brothers Limited. This plan shows land lots bordering two roads, the path of the water drains and survey marks. T Downing has lot 3 comprising 1 acre of land.
f) Plan of Nelson Brothers Tomoana sections showing 13 sections fronting a new road and the road from Tomoana to Hastings. H H Burns has land bordering lot 1.
g) Plan titled Part Lot 1, Subdivision D, Heretaunga Block, District Plan 285 for Nelson Brothers Limited. This plan shows 2 lots of 7 acres fronting Boundary Road and Nelson Street.
h) A contract dated March 1887 for Nelson Brothers Limited, 15 Dowgate Hill, E C, for a 120 horse power boiler at a cost of £403 sterling from The Babcock and Wilcox Company.
The contract is attached to a group of documents provided by The Babcock and Wilcox Company including a booklet titled: The International Inventions Exhibitions, London, 1885. The Babcock and Wilcox Company (New York and Glasgow) Patent Water Tube Steam Boiler. The booklet includes testimonials from companies that have purchased the boiler.
