About this object
View of the T & G Building, on the corner of Marine Parade and Emerson Street, taken from the Masonic Hotel looking south.
Designed by Atkin and Mitchell, construction of the T & G Building took place between 1935 and 1936. At the time that the photograph was taken, a concrete foundation had been laid and work had commenced on the construction of the ground floor columns.
Advertisements for Black and White Scotch Whisky, Anderson’s Nurseries, and the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company are located along the front edge of the site. An advertisement for Smith and Smith Limited appears on the side of a building located further along Marine Parade. A car is parked in front of the building site. On the right side of the photograph, the top of the Post Office and the Caledonian Hotel on Hastings Street are visible.
Photographer, unknown. Possibly Deighton Studios.
