About this object
A view of Te Mata Homestead in Havelock North. The photograph records the appearance of the homestead possibly between 1921 and 1931, when the building was destroyed in the Hawke's Bay earthquake. A new homestead was later rebuilt in 1935 to designs by William H Gummer. The photograph has been taken from the lawn in front of the house, looking towards the main entrance. The two storey house is clad in weatherboard. A distinctive verandah runs the full length of the front façade. Ivy hangs from the balustrades on the balcony.
