About this object
View of two raupō buildings, possibly in Hawke's Bay.
There is conflicting information regarding the subject of this photograph. A note along the bottom of the photograph identifies the building as having been occupied by Chapman and Synnot, who are listed in the Hawke's Bay Almanac of 1865 as having been runholders at Te Aute in Hawke's Bay. Elsewhere it has been suggested that these buildings formed part of an outstation located at Woburn Station in Hatuma.
The photograph shows two buildings clad with raupō. The one on the left serves as domestic quarters while the building on the right appears to be a shed or stables. A fenced area is located on the right side of the photograph. Two horses stand nearby. Two men are seated in front of the two buildings. Hills are visible in the distance.
The photograph is thought to have been taken in 1863.
