About this object
A studio portrait of Sister, later Matron, M Connor dressed in her nurse’s uniform. Connor is dressed in a white dress with a covering apron tied at the waist. There is decorative embroidery on the apron front at the waist. She is wearing her hair up and a nurse’s cap. Her body is angled away from the camera with her face turned toward it. Her gaze does not meet the camera. At the right of the image is a table on which a silver vase filled with flax rests. Connor’s left hand holds the handle of the vase.

M Connor was later married to Dr J Leahy of Napier Hospital. The photograph was taken at The Swiss Studio in Sydney, thought to be operational between 1898 and 1900.

Photographer, possibly W D Ross.
