About this object
Postcard featuring a hand coloured view of Herschell Street and Marine Parade, Napier, taken looking towards Bluff Hill, possibly in the early twentieth century.

Herschell Street is located on the left side of the image. The Masonic Hotel stands on the left side of the street. The hotel was rebuilt in 1897 after a fire destroyed the two storey building that had formerly occupied the site. At the centre of the image stands a band rotunda donated to the Borough of Napier by Neal and Close in 1894 and the Borough Council Chambers, built 1874. Marine Parade is lined with young Norfolk Island Pines. Tree guards enclose each of the trees. Napier Hill is visible in the background.

There is a note on the back of the postcard. The note is addressed to Jim from his father and dated 25 November 1907.
