Brief Description
Four letter books containing building inspector's reports associated with the reconstruction of dwellings following the Napier earthquake of 1931, issued by the Napier Citizen's Control Committee. Information includes: date, dwelling owner's name, application number, address, summary of damage and summary of repairs including chimneys and plumbing, summary of cost, signature of building inspector and status of repair work (at the time of the report some repair work was completed, whereas at other dwellings the work was still proceeding. In some instances the drains were repaired and this was reflected in the status also). Each handwritten letter begins with the anagram L R F A.

The letter books are staple bound with cardboard covers and canvas binding. The slips are perforated close to the spine, most of the original lined sheets are absent, with the carbon copied duplicate papers remaining.
