The photograph shows Napier looking towards Marine Parade from Tiffen Park after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake and fire.
Tennyson Street can be seen running across the photograph in the foreground and behind it is Emerson Street. Dalton Street can be seen running parallel on the right hand side of the photograph. The E & D building can be seen on the corner of Emerson and Dalton Streets. Dalgety's is behind it.
The remains of St Paul's Presbyterian Church can be seen in the lower right hand corner.
