About this object
The photograph shows the gardens located opposite the Borough Council Chambers and Masonic Hotel (Prouse & Wilson, architects) on Marine Parade. The gardens were built after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The Colonnade and the Tom Parker Fountain have not been built at the time the photograph was taken.
The building to the left of the new Masonic Hotel shows signs of earthquake damage. The sea wall can be seen dividing the gardens from the footpath. The Norfolk Island pines are lining the road.
Photographer, A B Hurst.
