About this object
The photograph shows the gardens opposite the Borough Council Chambers and Masonic Hotel (Prouse & Wilson, architects) on Marine Parade, built after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The Criterion Hotel is visible next to the new Masonic Hotel and to the left of the Borough Chambers Council is the Kinross White building (J A Louis Hay, architect).
The skating rink can be seen to the left with the sea wall acting as a boundary between it and the footpath. The colonnade has not been built. A bus is parked under a Norfolk Island pine.
Photographer, A B Hurst.
