About this object
A photograph of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. The Duke and Duchess are visible at the left hand side of the image travelling in the back of an open-top car. The image is blurred with the movement of the car. The Duchess of York is waving with a gloved hand and smiling to the crowd. The Duke of York is tilting his hat to the crowd, obscuring his face. The driver of the car is wearing a suit and hat and next to him in the foreground is a man in naval uniform. In the background the blurred image of the crowd can be seen. The crowd are smiling and waving. The men appear to have removed their hats and are using them to wave at the couple. The photograph was taken on 12 May 1927, during the Royal Tour of New Zealand.
