About this object
A photograph of the Duchess of York, later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in Napier. The photograph was taken on 12 May 1927, during the Duke and Duchess’ Royal Tour of New Zealand (later King George VI).
The Queen Mother is dressed in 1920s style and wearing a cloche hat in the centre of the image. She is holding a parasol and a large bouquet of flowers. To the left of the Queen Mother is a woman in uniform. Standing in the background is a formally dressed woman with a print skirt. Foliage is visible at the right edge of the image and in the background at the left, these are possibly Norfolk Pines or palms.
Photographer, unknown.
