About this object
An image of floats in the New Napier Carnival travelling along Hastings Street. Several decorated vehicles are travelling along Hastings Street. Near the middle of the procession are a group of men in uniform marching with their backs to the camera. These are possibly army personnel. The float approaching the intersection of the street appears to be the van of Reardon and Wright. This may be at the intersection of Hastings and Emerson Street.

The photograph is taken from a slightly elevated position. Parade spectators line both sides of Hastings Street. Some are standing on the scaffolding of the buildings that are still under construction. There are three large containers held down with stones visible at the bottom right of the image. Building material lies in this area.

The New Napier Carnival, held from 21 to 28 January 1933, celebrated the opening of Napier after the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake.
