About this object
An image of floats in the New Napier Carnival travelling along Marine Parade. The leading float is a vehicle covered with a wire frame. The frame near the back of the truck appears to have sun-bursts and colonnades. People are seated inside the framing in costume. The following float is a flat bed truck covered in paper decorations with a large rosette on the front of the cab. People dressed in white, possibly nurses, are gathered on the back of the vehicle.

The photograph is taken from a slightly elevated position. Parade spectators line both sides of Marine Parade and the corner. Some spectators are standing along the old sea wall. Norfolk Pines are visible along Marine Parade.

The New Napier Carnival, held from 21 to 28 January 1933, celebrated the opening of Napier after the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake.
