View of the Saloon at the McLean family residence on Napier Terrace, Napier.

The photograph has been taken from the centre of the Saloon, looking towards one corner of the room. A desk is located along one wall. A large mirror hangs above the desk. Framed portraits and various objects d'art are displayed on top of the desk. A Māori carving and a cloak are display on the nearby walls.

To the left of the desk is a door. The photographer is reflected in the upper glass panels of the door. The surrounding room is furnished with chairs and tables of various designs. Potted plants grow around the room.

A penny farthing bicycle is located along the right hand wall of the room, which has been partly finished in timber panelling. A small collection of weapons is displayed along the top of the wall above the line of the panelling.
