About this object
An image of a float in the New Napier Carnival Procession.
The New Napier Carnival, held from 21 to 28 January 1933, celebrated the opening of Napier after the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake. The float represents a steam ship with a large funnel near the centre. The sign on the top of the float reads: Another Hic Meeting. There are further signs along the starboard edge of the boat. The photograph is taken from an elevation looking slightly down on the float.
The float is travelling down an unidentified Napier street past a crowd of onlookers. The spectators are standing outside a burnt out building. Some people are seated on the window frames, ledges and doorways of the gutted building.
Photographer, unknown.
Date, 1933.
