Postcard featuring a view of the celebrations held for the turning of the first sod of the Napier to Gisborne Railway at Westshore on 29 January 1912.

The photograph shows a number of people in sailing boats along the Western Spit foreshore. Spectators are also standing on the road next to the shoreline. Several motor vehicles are parked along the road and there are also horses and carts visible in the distance.
