About this object
A photograph of a dignitary speaking to a large assembled crowd at the Napier Band Rotunda on Marine Parade. The photograph is believed to be a depiction of the Armistice Day commemoration, 11 November 1919.

The rotunda has an Australian flag hanging above the area where a man wearing a sash, possibly Mayor Henry Hill, is speaking. A large group are seated and standing behind him on the rotunda platform. Several military officers are visible in the left of the rotunda standing in a mourning pose with their heads lowered.

The Masonic Hotel is visible at the right along Herschell Street between Emerson Street, in the background, and Tennyson Street, out of view. Marine Parade is visible at the left crowded with participants in the commemoration service and lined with Norfolk Pines.

Several members of the crowd in the foreground are draped in Union Jacks. The New Zealand flag is visible flying just above the band rotunda.
