About this object
A photograph of the announcement of peace at the band rotunda on Marine Parade at the end of the South African War, 1902.
The crowd are gathered around the band rotunda on Marine Parade and in front of the Masonic Hotel. Groups of observers are visible on the balconies of the Masonic Hotel. People are also seated in the windows of the P & O (Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company) premises on the corner of Tennyson and Herschell Street. The band rotunda is furnished with a decorated speaker’s platform. The Union Jack flag is at half-mast at the left of the rotunda.
