About this object
A photograph of a Napier Mardi Gras procession down Hastings Street. The photograph possibly depicts a scene from the first Napier Mardi Gras festival held in late December 1913. In the foreground a dray horse is pulling a small cart with two people seated inside. Following behind are two women dressed as nurses and pushing a pram. Two people dressed as clowns follow holding a small sedan chair. Following this are a group of men standing on a buggy that is pulled by two horses. The men are in silver helmets and uniforms, this is possibly a fire brigade float. The front of a motorised truck is visible in the distance.

The street is lined with spectators including many young children. A group of young girls in white dresses and hats are visible in the right foreground of the image. The entrance to the Arcade, situated between Hastings Street and Marine Parade, is visible in the background left of the image. Note the tram lines along the street.
