Passport of George S Whitmore and Antonio Capani while travelling in the Balkans and Turkey during the Crimean War.

Includes a Police and Viennese stamp, dated 9 December 1855; a passport stamp from Constantinople, dated 13 December 1855; instructions in French on where Major Whitmore is travelling with a stamp from Varna, Bulgaria, dated 28 January 1856; a passport stamp allowing entry into Turkey from Bucharest, Romania, dated 13 March 1856; and unreadable stamps and unknown language from 1856.
