About this object
The photograph shows that the devastation caused to the Napier central business district by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake has been cleaned up and the construction of new buildings begun.
The Criterion Hotel is being built on the corner of Hastings and Emerson Streets. Building has begun on the opposite side of the street. McGruer's building is the two storey building on the left hand side of the street. St Patrick's Catholic Church spire and Dalgety's can be seen on the left. The tram lines are still visible on Hastings Street.
