The photograph shows that the devastation caused to the Napier central business district by the 3 February Hawke's Bay earthquake has been cleaned up and new building begun.

Lockyer's Music & Radio shop located on Emerson Street is being constructed at the right of the photograph. Workmen are constructing another building on the left.
