About this object
The photograph shows that the devastation caused to the Napier central business district by the 3 February Hawke's Bay earthquake has been cleaned up and the construction of new buildings begun.

The Criterion Hotel is being built on the corner of Hastings and Emerson Streets. Building has begun on the opposite side of the street. The Public Trust building can be seen on the right below the hill line. St Patrick's Catholic Church spire and Dalgety's can be seen on the left. The tram lines are still visible on Hastings Street.

Photographer, A B Hurst, Napier.
