About this object
View of a room in the Athenaeum, Browning Street, Napier, thought to have been taken in June 1900. The room is used to display part of the collection of the Hawke's Bay Philosophical Institute. Wall cases are located along the left and rear walls of the room. A pair of floor cases are visible in the foreground. Further specimen are displayed on the walls of the room.

The collection in this area is dominated by natural history specimen. Among the items on display are a whale's jaw bone, which is located in front of the door on the right, and a large fish specimen, which dominates the rear wall of the room. Māori and Polynesian artefacts are also visible.
