View of the ceremony held during the laying of the foundation stone of the Hawke's Bay Art Gallery and Museum on 18 July 1935. The stone was laid by the Governor General of New Zealand, George Vere Arundel Monckton-Arundell (Viscount Galway), who stands at the centre of the image.
The man standing to the left of Viscount Galway is possibly the President of the Hawke's Bay Art Society, Nathaniel Kettle.
The man seated second from the right on the right side of the photograph is possibly Mr Leo Bestall.
Other dignitaries are seated in the stage area.
