About this object
A photograph of a group of men standing outside Reardon and Wright’s premises on Emerson Street, Napier, on Decoration Day in early 1900.

Decoration Day appears to have been in support of the departure of the Hawke’s Bay Third Contingent of Rough Riders to the South African War.
The Reardon and Wright tailor’s premises are decorated with young saplings and foliage. Four men stand outside the corner entrance to the premises. Decoration Committee is noted on the back of the photograph, presumably in reference to these men. It is noted that one of these men is Frank O'Connor.

Behind the men two boys and an older gentleman are standing under the shop awning in the shadows. Another suited man in visible on the pavement under the awning at the left of the image. The signage for the premises of C B Hoadley and Company are visible at the top right of the building. Also at the right the sign writing reads: Paterson Mossman…
