About this object
A photograph of a horse drawn float possibly from the first Napier Mardi Gras festival held in 1913.

The float is drawn by a small team of dray horses yoked to a cart. On the cart a small thatched hut is constructed with painted faux brick walls. Outside several men are standing in traditional Scottish styles of dress. A standard of Scotland is flying from a pole at the rear of the cart. Several other men in suits and hats are seated at the front of the cart near the driver.

Along the unidentified Napier street men, women and children observe the parade. There are onlookers in the foreground of the image and in the background standing behind a white picket fence. Another group parading on foot in formal uniforms appear to be following the float.
