About this object
A photograph of an unidentified military procession down Hastings Street. The procession is possibly the parade of military personnel conducted during the Imperial Troop visit in February 1901. A brass band is parading down the street followed by infantry holding bayoneted rifles. A Napier tram is visible parked farther along Hastings Street. Spectators are visible all the way along the street and in the windows and on awnings above the shops. The shop awnings and posts along the street are decorated with young saplings and foliage.
The photograph is taken from the corner of Tennyson Street and Hastings Street. The following businesses and buildings are visible along Hastings Street: J R Ross and Company, Bank of Australasia, Kirkcaldie and Stains Limited, John C McVay, S E Cooper and the New Zealand Hawke's Bay Clothing Factory.
