About this object
View of the Band Rotunda donated to the Borough of Napier by Neal and Close in 1894. The photograph has been taken from the intersection of Marine Parade and Tennyson Street following the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. The band rotunda suffered substantial damage in the quake. The columns of the structure have given way, causing the roof to collapse towards Herschell Street. Pieces of wrought iron tracery have also become dislodged. The lamp posts around the structure remain standing. A man stands in front of the band rotunda on the left side of the image.

To the right of the band rotunda, the remains of the Masonic Hotel are visible.

Photographer, unknown.
