About this object
A photograph depicting Emerson Street decorated for the parade and ceremonies surrounding the Imperial Troop Visit to Napier in February 1901. The street is decorated with strings of flags in a bunting style.

The photograph is taken from a shop awning above the procession looking down the street towards Marine Parade. A woman seated on a shop awning is visible at the right of the image watching the parade.

A group of infantry in Scottish military uniform are passing in the foreground of the procession. They are possibly the Black Watch or Seaforth Highlanders. They are flanked by cavalry on their right hand side. Behind them infantry are marching in rows all the way along the street into the distance.

A man is perched near the top of the lamp post at the left hand side of the image near W Dodds' tailor shop.

The shop awnings and posts along the street are decorated with young saplings and foliage.

Photographer unknown.
