About this object
A photograph of a military brass band on Marine Parade near Browning Street, dated 1897.
The group appear to be getting organised and preparing to march. Presumably this parade was in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrated in Napier on 22 June 1897. A small group of children are looking at the camera and posing in the foreground and at the right of the frame on the far side of Marine Parade. A few military men on horseback are at the rear of the marching band.
The Hawke’s Bay Club is visible in the right hand background of the image. The side of the Courthouse on Browning Street.is visible in the background at the left hand side of the photograph. Note that Marine Parade has a limestone covering at this date.
Photographer, W H Neal.
Date, 1897.
