Military report from William A Richardson to George S Whitmore, Wairoa regarding military action in the Wairoa region against Pai Mārire forces. Dated 26 July 1868.
Richardson writes a daily account of military actions in the Te Reinga district from 23 and 24 July in which he fought a fighting retreat against Te Kooti and his Pai Mārire forces. Admonishes the Māori contingent, especially Paora Te Apatu, for fleeing the battlefield and commends Karaitiana Takamoana for being one of the only to stay.
