About this object
View of the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874) on Marine Parade, Napier. The photograph has been taken from the balcony of the Masonic Hotel looking north towards Bluff Hill, possibly in the 1910s or 1920s. In the right foreground is the band rotunda donated to the Borough of Napier by Neal and Close in 1894. Herschell Street is visible on the left side of the photograph. The roof of the Athenaeum (built 1865, demolished 1933) is visible on the corner of Herschell Street and Browning Street.

Bluff hill is visible in the distance.
